A very basic desktop PC for a bargain-basement $164.99From Geeks.com, this is an interesting refurbished desktop PC, and it will be exactly what someone is looking for. It has no bells or whistles, but it’s a sturdy PC which can handle most basic tasks, and which is just begging for a handy owner who wants to tinker and perhaps do a bit of upgrading. It might also be a nice buy for a parent who’s new the concept of the Internet and just wants to do some basic surfing and emailing. The computer is an IBM NetVista tower with a Pentium 4 2.0GHz processor. It comes with a hefty 512MB of RAM, and that can make up for any shortcomings in the CPU department. The 40GB hard drive is adequate for most people and won’t be outgrown. This refurbished desktop computer has a CD-ROM drive and a floppy disk drive, but no flashy gadgets like CD or DVD-RW. Luckily, rewriteable DVD drives are now available as fairly inexpensive external accessories, so it would be easy to add-on if the mood hit you. Audio and video are both integrated. The price of this PC is just $164.99, but it does not come with an operating system, a keyboard, or mouse. While it’s common for people to have extras of those items around their homes, keep in mind that you may need to buy a few accessories like those before your PC will be up and running. It’s a nice chance to try an alternative operating system — this could be a second computer where you install and experiment with something like Linspire. Shipping is reasonable, too… depending on where you live, I calculated prices as low as $10. Leave a Reply | |
